Revelation 4:1 — ‘Come up here…’
Rising Above Stagnation Into Deeper Intimacy, Clarity & Authority
INTRODUCTION — GOD’S CALL TO A HIGHER LIFE
Scripture: Revelation 4:1 — John hears a voice ‘like a trumpet’: Come up here, and I will show you…
This is not a suggestion; it is a divine invitation to rise above spiritual stagnation and enter deeper intimacy, clarity, and authority.
Key thought: Whether 15 or 75, God always has a next level for you.
1) GOD CALLS YOU UP BEFORE HE SHOWS YOU MORE
‘Come up here, and I will show you…’ (Rev 4:1). Elevation precedes revelation. You cannot see from down there what God reveals up here.
Youth: Want clarity about your future? Get closer to God.
Adults: God still has fresh purpose for your next season.
Scriptures: Jeremiah 33:3; Psalm 24:3–4; James 4:8.
2) STAGNATION IS SUBTLE, SILENT, AND SPIRITUALLY DANGEROUS
Stagnation = staying where you are longer than God intended.
Youth stagnation: faith only at events; inconsistent prayer; distracted; up-and-down.
Adult stagnation: busy but empty; familiar with God but not encountering Him; motion without growth.
Scriptures: Proverbs 4:18; Hebrews 5:12.
3) GOD OPENS THE DOOR, BUT YOU MUST MOVE
There is ‘a door standing open in heaven’ (Rev 4:1). Open door ¹ entered door. God invites; we decide.
Youth: Don’t wait for a feeling. Respond to God’s call.
Adults: Don’t wait for ‘the right season.’ The door is open now.
Scripture: James 4:8; Matthew 7:7.
4) COME UP IN INTIMACY — KNOW GOD, NOT JUST FACTS ABOUT GOD
Intimacy is daily pursuit, not hype.
Practices: First 5 with God; pray when you don’t feel it; secret worship; choose purity; make devotion a discipline.
Scriptures: Psalm 63:1; Jeremiah 29:13; Revelation 2:4.
5) COME UP IN CLARITY — SEE FROM GOD’S PERSPECTIVE
John ‘saw the throne’ (Rev 4:2). Elevation changes vision: drama shrinks; fear quiets; purpose clarifies.
Scriptures: Isaiah 40:31; Proverbs 3:5–6.
6) COME UP IN AUTHORITY — WALK IN GOD-GIVEN POWER
Authority is proximity-powered (Luke 10:19). The closer to God, the stronger your spiritual voice.
Outcomes: Resist temptation; pray boldly; speak life; overcome spiritual attacks; enforce victory.
Scriptures: Luke 10:19; Ephesians 6:10–13.
7) TO GO UP, LET GO — THREE THINGS TO DROP
1. Old Mindsets (Romans 12:2) — Renew your mind. Youth: ‘I’m not enough.’ Adults: ‘Nothing will change.’ Replace lies with truth.
2. Old Habits (Hebrews 12:1) — Some weights aren’t sins, but they steal momentum.
3. Old Circles (Proverbs 13:20) — Wrong people keep you at wrong levels. Elevation requires selective association.
8) WHEN YOU COME UP — FOUR RESULTS (Revelation 4)
1) You see Jesus more clearly (v.2) — fear fades, faith rises.
2) Worship goes deeper (vv.8–11) — not routine, but revelation.
3) Spiritual clarity increases — direction replaces confusion.
4) Authority rises — you live with power, not passivity.
GOD IS CALLING THE WHOLE HOUSE HIGHER
Pray this invitation over youth and adults alike: ‘Come up from distraction, inconsistency, compromise, and comfort.
Come into deeper worship, intimacy, clarity, and authority.’
Invite a physical response (altar, kneel, stand, lifted hands). Lead the room to say: ‘Jesus, I choose to come up here.’
